Jahorina, the mountain that hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics, is preparing for another major step forward in the development of its ski resort. Plans include expanding the slopes by around 40 additional kilometers, building new lifts, and modernizing the snowmaking system, with the goal of eventually welcoming up to 25,000 skiers per day.

For winter sports lovers, this is great news. During peak season, Jahorina already sees exceptional visitor numbers, so the expanded capacity means shorter lines on the slopes and lifts, along with more room for skiers of all levels — from beginners to experienced skiers looking for more challenging runs.

Special attention is also being given to modernizing the snowmaking system. The newer, more advanced equipment is expected to produce snow more efficiently while using less energy and water, ultimately meaning a more reliable and longer season for skiers, regardless of natural snowfall. The goal is for a large share of the ski slopes to be ready after just a few cold days, further reducing the risk of skiing being disrupted by unfavorable weather.

Alongside the expanded slopes, new snowmaking reservoirs and additional vertical transport are planned, meaning extra lifts during the busiest periods to move skiers to the top faster and more comfortably. These infrastructure investments are part of a broader vision to establish Jahorina as one of the leading mountain destinations in the region, aiming to attract both local and international visitors throughout the winter season.

Interestingly, Jahorina is also placing growing emphasis on its summer offering. This year saw the introduction of the family “Olimp Card,” which for 75 KM provides access to all of the Olympic Center’s summer attractions, including lunch at the Olimp bar — a great option for families planning a getaway outside the ski season. The mountain is increasingly becoming a year-round destination.
