Servicing and repair of ski equipment on Jahorina

In our ski & rent MAX on Jahorina you can rent or repair, service your skiing or snowboarding equipment.
Every skier or boarder wants well-serviced equipment. Regular service and inspection of equipment will not only affect the quality of skiing but will also greatly contribute to the safety of skiers and the life of the equipment itself
-We divide ski service into small and large.
A small service is performed when it is necessary to arrange (grind) the edges of the skis and arrange the sliding surface (base, flash), ie. apply wax, while great service includes filling ski-based holes. In case of major damage to the skis, special services are performed and it is not possible to perform them in every service.

A great service is done by first cleaning the ski, ie “sanding” the base, which removes the protrusions. Graphite is then applied to the damaged parts to fill the holes. It is located in a stick (mostly) that is ignited with a lighter and is applied by dripping on the place that needs to be “patched”. When the graphite mass dries, the ski is leveled with a special tool, so that there is no accumulation of mass, ie. to obtain a flat sliding surface. Then the structure of the base is done, and by that we mean making microscopic grooves due to the passage of water. When skiing, the surface layer of snow, due to friction, turns into water (aquaplanung) and these grooves allow water to pass through them, and the ski is still on the snow. As a result, the ski adheres better to the ground. Finally, the entire base is cleaned with a brush for cleanliness.

Edge sanding is performed by cleaning the edges of any protrusions and rust, if necessary, with a coarser file. At the curb, we distinguish between the “base edge” (the curb “below” the ski, ie along the base of the ski) and the “side edge” (the curb on the side of the ski) according to the angles at which we grind them. Services and recreational skiers grind “base edge” at -1 ° (89 °) and “side edge” at 2 ° (88 °). It is important to note that the angles must not be at 0 ° (90 °), as rapid blunting occurs. A different choice of slope is used by skiers-competitors, while recreational skiers will be satisfied with the mentioned slope. These slopes are obtained by using special angles that are used in combination with finer files. After grinding, the edges are passed with diamond stone, in order to get smoothness, and then the tops are slightly blunted (detuning), because they can cause great problems for an unaccustomed person when entering a bend.

Finally, the skis need to be waxed (special for this purpose) to make the skis glide as well as possible on the snow. Wax also reduces the possibility of damage to the ski because if the ski is dry the chances of damage are greater.

Šta vam je potrebno za skijanje?

Skis

Conventional skis are a thing of the past. Today, it is almost impossible to find those that are not made in the shape of an hourglass – inspired by the shape of a snowboard, they are wider at the front and back, and narrower in the middle.

When choosing a height, make sure they are at the level of your face, between your chin and nose (ideally if they are up to the height of your mouth). The longer they are the more stable they are, but also harder to manage. That is why shorter ones are recommended for beginners. As you become more experienced, you can shop longer and longer.

Flexibility is also important. If you are a beginner, they are softer for you because they are slower.

Bindings

Bindings are a safety mechanism that attaches to the ski boot. Sometimes this is useful, sometimes it’s not. At the very beginning of the skiing era, there were only a few different types of bindings. Mostly, these were very rough mechanisms with the role of releasing the boot at the moment of the fall. However, in many cases they were fired when they really shouldn’t have been, and sometimes you could only fire them with a hammer. The good news is that embroidery has evolved to an enviable level compared to those uncertain times.

Most modern bindings are, in fact, “binding mechanisms” that are integrated into the ski itself. It is not uncommon to buy skis and bindings in one package, instead of as separate components. In modern “packages”, they allow the equipment to move together while holding the ski boot, thus preventing premature release. Connection systems in one are always a better choice.

Boots

In the late sixties, leather boots were replaced with plastic ones up to the height of the ankle. Plastic ones provide better leg support and greater control over movements, but they create the feeling that you have put your leg together. New technology in their production has brought a model of soft armor – a combination of comfort of the old and practicality of the new.

When buying boots, pay attention to the type that suits you. For beginners, softer ones are recommended because they provide excellent support and are more suitable for slower driving, while more experienced ones can try a firmer variant that is more flexible and behaves better when driving faster.

Rods

Choose the rods according to your height. To find the right rod, put on the boots and turn the stick upside down. Keep your hand under the “tick” (stopper). If there is a right angle in your elbow, it is your rod.

Ski googles

Ski goggles must protect you from ultraviolet rays, wind and sun glare. There are two types – regular and those for people who wear eyeglasses, that is, glasses that go over eyeglasses.

Wardrobe

Wear 3 layers of clothing while skiing: the outer one that repels wind and snow (usually a jacket and pants), the middle one that warms you and the inner one, ie. thermal underwear.

Rent or buy?

If you ski less than 10 days a year, rent all the equipment. It will be easier for you because you don’t have to maintain it or drag it to the mountain.

The equipment also changes, almost from year to year. If you are not ready to change it every two years, then rent it.

And one more important thing – never rent equipment at home, but as close as possible to the mountain, that is, the place where you went skiing. This way you will avoid harassment if, for example, something is not right, so you have to replace the equipment in Belgrade (and you are in Jahorina).
